Douglas Grant Bremner
(Aug 8, 1937 - May 13, 2010)

Doug was born in Saskatchewan on August 8th, 1937.  He lived in a small town called Swift Current where he was raised by Mary and James Bremner.  At 17 he joined the air force to see the world.  He served as an RCAF navigator in Europe and North Africa before settling down in North Bay where he met his wife Lola.  They married on Canada Day 1964, his last day in uniform.  Together they moved to Toronto to start a new life.  They had two children, Erica (1967) and Jason (1970).  He was an active father and served as the kids’ role model, inspiring them to great things.

Professionally, Doug had a successful career working in insurance and later medical sales.  His passion for flight continued after the air force and he took to gliding in the early 1970s.  He was a long standing member of the SOSA Gliding Club and purchased his own glider in 1994.  His passion for gliding was second only to his love of carpentry.  Doug was an avid craftsman who was always building something in the shop.  Most recently he was a very active member of the Golden Horseshoe Woodturning Guild.

Doug was well travelled, visiting his son and daughter’s families in California and Australia.  One of his life’s goals was to complete a university degree.  When he was 65 he finally began that journey and enrolled at McMaster University.  He spent seven years taking courses in History and English and was due to graduate this Fall with Honours.

Doug loved a good book, fine music and a strong manhattan.

Douglas will be sadly missed by us all.  His loving wife Lola, daughter Erica (Wayne), son Jason (Jennifer), Margaret (mother-in-law), Emily (Robert) sister-in-law.  His beautiful grandchildren Jaxon, Teah, Hailey, Tyler and Sierra.  Brother to Mike (Christine) and Keltie (Tom).  Predeceased by his sister Sheila (Jim).

He was loved and will be missed.  Happy soaring, Doug.

A Celebration of Life will be held at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill Street North, Waterdown, Ontario on Thursday, May 20th, 2010 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm.  In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society on Doug’s behalf.  www.cancer.ca/ontario.aspx
