Passed peacefully, after a courageous battle, at McMaster Hospital on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, in his 79th year. Beloved husband of Everdina Steenbruggen and dear father of Judy (Diann Cooke) Steenbruggen, Jane (Dave) King, Rod (Lori) Steenbruggen and Jim (Susie) Steenbruggen. Inspirational grandfather to 9 grandchildren; Jayme (Mitch), Drew (Lindsey) and Wesley King, Jessica, Andrea (Adam), Nicole and Ben Steenbruggen, Mia and Claire Steenbruggen and great-grandfather to Emilee, Ayla and Olivia Ladouceur, and Cameron Steenbruggen. Rod immigrated to Canada from the Netherlands in 1956, with his young bride Everdina, to build a new life. He served his community with love and honour. Well done faithful servant. Slaap zacht. Visitation will be held at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill Street North, Waterdown on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at CARLISLE UNITED CHURCH, 1432 Centre Rd., Carlisle on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in Carlisle Cemetery.
