Passed away peacefully on Monday, March 15, 2010 with his family near him. beloved husband of Elva (deceased) for 66 years.. who he loved dearly from the very beginning to the very end. Don's passion and strength will be missed by his two sons Ted (Marilyn) and Jim (Mary), and his five grandchildren Cindy, Dave, Steve, Jeff, and Julia and his 10 great grandchildren. Don was born in Hamilton on July 31, 1918 and was tremendously proud to be a War Veteran, as well as being a Life member of Branch 36 Canadian Legion, Dundas. His dedication positively led him through many careers in his life until his crowning achievement of building and opening Pineland Greens Golf Course on the family homestead. Although Don and Elva began this career later in life, he was able to persevere through the difficult early stages to establish a business that he and his family were, and still are very attached to. His many friendships and connections were strong and this is something that he and Elva took great pride in. Whether he was hitting homeruns, playing cards, or out on the golf course Don was always a ferocious competitor. We wish to express our thanks to the many care givers that Don had over the last few years and especially to the people at Atrium Villa where he spent his final days. Visitation will be held at the KITCHING,STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill St. N., Waterdown on Thursday, March 18 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at STRABANE UNITED CHURCH, 1565 Brock Rd., Strabane on Friday, March 19, 2010 at 11 a.m. Cremation to follow. A Legion Service, will be held at the funeral home on Thursday evening, March 18 at 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Strabane United Church, Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 36, Dundas or the charity of your choice.
