Born in Estonia in 1907, Osvald endured the plight of many war time refugees escaping the tyranny of
Russian occupation during and after WW2. He started his new life in northern Ontario where he worked in the lumber industry until the late 1950’s. He moved south to set up stakes in Millgrove and built his home with his own hands. True to his wishes it was in that home where he died peacefully surrounded by his family. He was predeceased by his partner, Reet Poder who asked him to heaven on the date of her birth. With him was his step daughter Tiiu Poder and her partner Rob Buckland Nicks both from Nova Scotia and her son Reyn O’Born, a student at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo. Tiiu’s daughter Dana will travel back from her university studies in Edinburgh, Scotland. One hour before his passing the 7 month daughter of his long time care worker Margaret Oosterveld, clutched his finger with her hand on a special visit. We have so much thanks and praise for the Paramed and VON staff that visited his home daily to attend to his needs; Lee, Marylin, Linda, Nicole and Jennifer. They enabled him to stay in his home in his later years. His neighbours on Carey St. were a huge support and will always be remembered for their kindness and generosity as will his special friends George Passmore, Maret Cox and Oje Saar.
The Funeral Service will take place at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill Street North, Waterdown on Saturday, March 13th at 10 a.m. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Interment will follow at the Woodland Cemetery.
