Passed away peacefully at Wentworth Lodge, Dundas on Saturday, January 16, 2010, in his 77th year. Beloved husband of the late Ilene Hunter (nee Hood). Dearly loved father of Jeanette, Ken (Debbie), Dianne (Dave), Don (Sherry), Brian (Lori), and Tim (Sherry). Wonderful grandfather to Scott (Jamey), Mary, Katie, Lucas, Jesse, Christopher, Elizabeth, Ashley, Jason, Tia, Tanner, Jessica, James, Josh, Jake and Emily. Dear great-grandfather to Bradley, Jenson, and Gracie. Loving brother of Roy (Marilyn) Hunter and brother-in-law of Verna (Jack) Hanning, Jordy (Pepper) Martin and best friends Ken (Margie) Hood. Predeceased by his daughter Carol Lynn, his sisters Kay (Tommy) Attridge, Marg (Don) Gartley, and great-granddaughters Emma, Ella and Alana Hanigan. He will also be missed by his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Gerry was retired from Stelco after 36 years of service, he was a long time member of the Freelton Lion's Club, a volunteer with the Freelton Fire Department and was the "best baseball coach" in Freelton for many years. Many heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Wentworth Lodge for their care of Dad over the last eight months.
Friends may visit with the family at KITCHING, STEEPE & LUDWIG FUNERAL HOME, 146 Mill Street North, Waterdown on Monday from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at OUR LADY OF MT. CARMEL CHURCH on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. Interment to follow in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. If so desired, donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
